Five Pilchards
The Five Pilchards, the deeds of which date back to the 1830s, stands 30 yards from the fishing cove beach of Porthallow
The Five Pilchards has an interesting collection of shipwreck relics. The kitchens have been enlarged, however all modifications are in keeping with the old interior and adorning nautical artifacts.
The Five Pilchards offers a good range of different brewery beers, including, Sharp's "Doom Bar" and Abbott Bitter. Other guest beers change on a weekly basis. The restaurant can accomodate 30 people and a good selection of lunches and evening meals are available from the blackboard menu. All food is purchased from local suppliers, from fresh lobster and crab to sole (which comes HIGHLY reccommended!). Vegetables are supplied by local growers and are available in season. The sizzling chargrilled meat is supplied by a reputable local butcher. It is advisable to book in advance for evening meals in peak season. Children and dogs are welcome (if accompanied by a consenting adult).
Porthallow, called "P'raller" by locals, is a former fishing village which specialised in the pilchard industry. It is situated Ease of St. Kevernr and South of Gillan Creek. As well as the pub, Porthallow has a shop, post office, cafe, and gift shops. It is a beautiful place for cliff walks and the opportunity to take in the stunning views of Falmouth Bay.
